BRITISH MADE CARS STILL RATED THE BEST

Press Article

Despite the woes of MG Rover British made cars are still considered the best, according to a new poll. Six vehicles produced in the UK made it into the top 10 of a poll to find the 100 greatest cars of all time.

The original 1959 Mini came 4th in the list compiled from 70,000 responses from readers of Channel 4's online motoring magazine 4car. The overall winner was the 240 mph McLaren F1 built in Woking, while the Coventry made Jaguar E Type came 3rd. The Aston Martin DB9, made in Warwickshire was in 6th place; the original AC Cobra sports car made in Thames Ditton came 7th, and the original Land Rover manufactured in Solihull, took 10th place.

Another British classic, the Reliant Robin made a good showing at number 82 beating the Mercedes S class into 83rd place, the Porsche Cayenne into 89th and the £70,000 Volkswagen Phaeton into 99th. Gavin Conway site editor at Channel 4.com/4car said "These results show that whatever the current state of the UK car industry the UK public still believe that British is best".
